News: What to fill a powerful American vehicle? We are giving the answer.

Let’s consider all nuances of choosing oil on the example of American auto industry’s representative, which has recently arrived in Ukraine – Nissan NV 1500 car with the mileage of 90 thousand kilometers. It is a cargo-passenger minibus with 4-liter gasoline engine, on which was mounted gas-powered equipment. This is quite common practice for vehicles imported from the U.S., with their huge engine capacity and significant fuel consumption. In the manual contains the recommendation to use oil corresponding to the service category API SN with a viscosity grade of 5W-30 and the interval of replacement of 8 thousand kilometers. We will try to adapt American recommendations to the Ukrainian realities.

The first – the sphere of application. A car of such class is a workhorse, which transports numerous loads 24 hours a day, very often above its carrying capacity, so we select the oil for heavily loaded engines operating in severe conditions.

The second is the type of fuel. We give preference to oil that has already been tested by the manufacturer for the possibility of using different fuels – gasoline and gas and has an appropriate composition of base oils and additive packages.

The third is the lowest cold start temperatures. Considering the experience of the last winters, oils with winter viscosity grade of 5W and 10W that guarantee problem-free engine starting at -30°C and -25°C respectively have worked out very well.

The fourth is the mileage of the car. Engines with higher mileage usually already have increased oil clearances and require higher oil viscosity at higher temperatures to get a strong and unbreakable oil film.
