JASO Diesel engine oil performance classifications
These specifications were developed by the Japanese Automotive Standard Organization (JASO) and refer to engine oils for four-stroke diesel trucks and cars. According to JASO standard M 355: 2017, engine oils are classified as follows:
JASO Diesel engine oil classification
Specification | Description |
DH-1 | Oils with high sulfated ash content (full SAPS) for heavy diesel engines. These oils are suitable for engines using fuels with a sulfur content of more than 0.05%. Not suitable for engines equipped with exhaust aftertreatment devices. |
DH–2 | Oils with reduced sulfated ash content (mid SAPS) intended for heavy-duty diesel engines, especially if they are equipped with exhaust aftertreatment devices. These oils are suitable for engines that use fuels with a sulfur content not exceeding 0.005%. |
DH-2F | Energy-saving engine oils with reduced sulfated ash content (mid SAPS) for heavy-duty diesel engines. The oils are suitable for engines that use fuels with a sulfur content not exceeding 0.005%. |
DL-0 | Oils with a high sulfated ash content (full SAPS), intended for lightweight diesel engines. An alternative to the use of oils API CF-4 in light diesel engines. These oils are suitable for engines that use fuels with a sulfur content of more than 0.05%. |
DL-1 | Energy-saving low-friction SAE xW-30, xW-20 oils with low sulphated ash content (low SAPS). Specially designed for light duty diesel engines equipped with exhaust aftertreatment devices. Oils are suitable for engines using fuels with a sulfur content not exceeding 0.005%. |
